This book stemmed from a serie of articles contributed during 1997-98 for a newsletter targeted to entrepreneurs, on the basis of my experience as an Internet presence provider. The originally published articles had an informal character, a funny and irreverent tone and a highly speculative level, because the environment permitted it and the readers liked it. I always kept and keep an open mind to new eBusinesses, either from the theoretical or practical viewpoints. I tried to cover a wide thematic range and analyze the common methodological aspects and secrets to success.
During the course of consecutive reviews the contents were updated and new cases and study methods were included.
I always preferred to be a protagonist and not a scholar or theoretical referent. I usually employ programming students from local universities to carry out my own projects and those from clients, and too many times I had to say  “he who knows, knows, and he doesn’t know, teaches”.
I need to explain how I could be part of so many different Cyberbusiness as described in this book. After all, only one good business should be enough for a regular businessman. Unless your name is Jim Clark, and you can create Sylicon Graphics in the morning, Netscape in the afternoon and Heltheon in the evening…
Actually, I work as independent webmaster since 1996, and usually advice young cyber-entrepreneurs or businessmen who might become clients. I ask a lot of questions to those who want to buy services or get advice from me. How the got where they are, how they choose their objectives and methods, which are the current results and so on. From other people experience, you get an insight into the general problem of Internet business.
Unfortunately. I do not have all the answers. Many times you know there is gold in the jewelry store, but not exactly where. The Internet represents an irrepetible cataclysm in which many large dinosaurs will die out, and some small mammals, expeditious and adaptable, will occupy its place. The rules of the old economy are being reconsidered, in the light of the globally connected world. A traditional profession, a trajectory in a certain market or a position in a good company aren’t enough credentials that assure success in this new ball game.
Fortunately, regardless the cyberbusiness that we choose, the tools to find gold are mostly the same: knowledge, concept, focus, software, hours of navigation, perseverance, some capital and a little--why not--of luck
